EN 400

Language & Discourse

An exploration of various theories of language, style, discourse and/or rhetoric. Topics studied may include the cultural history of the English language, stylistics, linguistics, oral and discourse theory in film, media, literary and non-literary texts. Prerequisites: Registration in Year 4 of Honours English or Combined Honours English, or permission of the department. Notes: Courses at the 400 level are open only to Year 4 students. Seminar courses are studies of an advanced nature, conducted in small participating groups in which significant topics of literary interest are explored through reading primary and secondary sources.
